TURLOCK – In a foul laden match, Cal State Stanislaus defeated the Humboldt State men’s soccer team 3-1 Friday night.  The loss leaves the HSU record at 5-10-2 overall and 4-8-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.  CSUS is 9-6-1, 6-6-1 in the CCAA.

CSU Stanislaus committed 22 of the 30 fouls whistled during the game, which was a season high for an HSU opponent.  The 30 fouls are the second most during a Humboldt State match this season.  On Sept. 11, against Chico State, the two sides combined to commit 34 fouls.

CSUS scored in the seventh minute on an own goal.  The Warriors took that 1-0 lead into the half. In the 63rd minute the Cal State Stanislaus made it 2-0 with a header by Victor Regalado.

Ten minutes later, at the 73:36 mark, defender Doug Simpson got the Jacks on the board with his first goal of the season.  With the ball lose, there was a scramble in front of the Stanislaus goal.   Simpson got on it and sent it home to cut the lead in half, but HSU would get no closer.

Stanislaus got the match’s final goal in the 84th minute for the 3-1 result.

HSU outshot the Warriors 20-14, led by Simpson’s goal.  Josh Suggs took six shots, three of which were on goal.  Tony Ramirez and Lloyd Sinclair each had three shots.  In goal, keeper Kyle Verle made four saves while allowing three goals in the loss.

The road trip wraps up in Chico on Sunday at 2 p.m. as the Jacks face Chico State in its second to last road trip of the season.
