ARCATA – Humboldt State forward Josh Suggs has been named a 2009 Men's NCAA Division II All-West Region performer by the National Soccer Coaches Association it was announced Tuesday.

Suggs, a junior out of Las Cruces, N.M., was named to the third team.  It is his first all-region recognition.

“Josh is very deserving of this award,” head coach Christian Johnson said.  “It is something to be very proud of as a player.  For our program and as a coaching staff it is nice to see one of our athletes get this kind of the recognition.  Knowing the type of student-athlete that Josh is, this will be a big motivator for him as he goes into his senior year.  He set a goal, worked hard and achieved it.  I am excited to see what he will accomplish next season.”

For the year he scored a team-leading nine goals and added three assists for 21 points while making 18 starts and seeing action in all 20 matches.

Among CCAA players, Suggs ranked in the top-10 of six statistical categories in 2009 with his 71 shots leading the conference.  He tied for third in goals with seven, and tied for fifth in points with 16.  Those accomplishments earned him All-CCAA selection.

HSU finished in a fourth place in the CCAA’s North Division with a 5-8-3 record and an overall mark of 6-10-4.
