ARCATA — Humboldt State head softball coach Frank Cheek will be presented the National Faspitch Coaches Association's highest honor Friday when he is formally inducted into the NFCA's Hall of Fame at the organization's annual convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Cheek joins Bill Edwards of Hofstra University and Diane Ninemire of the University of California as this year's inductees. The 2009 class will bring the NFCA’s Hall of Fame to an elite 50 members.

In 21 seasons as the Lumberjacks' head coach, Cheek has guided his program to two NCAA Division II Championships, claiming the title in 1999 and 2008. His teams have earned 18 conference championships, made 19 West Region playoff appearances and earned five West Region titles. The leader of the 2008 NFCA Division II’s Coaching Staff of the Year, Cheek has also served as the wrestling coach and athletic director at Humboldt State.

Cheek recorded another milestone last spring, surpassing 1,000 career wins in softball. His teams have posted a 1018-264-1 overall record for a .794 winning percentage.

Presenting Cheek at the Hall of Fame Banquet will be College of the Redwoods head coach Maggie White, who
played for Cheek for four years in high school and four more at HSU before serving a stint as his assistant coach.
