Venue
The University of Oregon’s storied Hayward Field has been the host facility for four Olympic Trials, nine NCAA Championships and six USA Championships. The 400-meter track consists of eight 48-inch lanes with 85-meter straightaways and 115-meter curves. The track is a polyurethane surface. …All field events are contested on the stadium infield for the best spectator viewing with the exception of the hammer.
Lumberjack Notes
Throwers Kelsey Lemke and Jodi Symonds will seek improvement on their javelin throws one week after taking the top two places in the CCAA Championships. Lemke already holds a provisional qualifier in the event, but Symonds has yet to post one this year after earning All-American status in the javelin in 2008. …Also hoping to improve her qualifier in the shot put is Heather Snyder, who will also seek to add one in the discus. “Heather is ready to break out a big one in the discus,” HSU head coach Sandy Moran said. “Good weather conditions will really help her get there this week.” … On the track, Eric Malain and Michael Radenbaugh will run the 1,500 meters, and Megan Rolland will take a break from the steeplechase to pursue the women’s 1,500. …Thomas Wilhelm hopes to add distance to his season-best mark of 162-0 in the men’s discus, a measurement that ranked him 19th in the nation last week. Teammate Brian Belue, who is listed eighth in the decathlon, will tune up in a couple of selected events Saturday. …Bryan Wilkomm hopes to gain entry in the shot put field and Tim Bishop will likewise wait for confirmation of his seeding in the 400 hurdles.
Moran’s Mantra
“(The CCAA Championships) came so quickly, and it’s the end of the season for many of our athletes. But there is still a good sized group that is either close to making it to nationals or just hoping for a better performance.”
