ARCATA — Following eight years as head coach of the Humboldt State women’s soccer program and five years directing the HSU men, Andy Cumbo is leaving the Lumberjacks to focus on coaching the men’s program at Cal State East Bay.
Cumbo will take over at CSU East Bay on June 22, assuming the helm of a program that is returning to NCAA Division II status and will join HSU in the California Collegiate Athletic Association beginning this fall.
“Andy has had a wonderful career at HSU. He's really brought program to higher level,” HSU Athletic Director Dan Collen said. “We certainly wish him and his family the best and wish Andy success in his new position at East Bay."
During his tenure as HSU women’s coach, Cumbo’s teams posted a 74-70-13 overall record. His men’s program has 42-48-9 record in the past five years.
“Humboldt State gave me the opportunity to begin my college coaching career 10 years ago and I am grateful for that,” said Cumbo, who was an HSU assistant for two years before taking over the women’s program. “I have a lot of fond memories at HSU that I will take with me.”
