ARCATA — Former San Jose State University sports information assistant Richard Stern has been selected as Assistant Sports Information Director at Humboldt State following a nationwide search.

Stern joins Assistant Athletic Director Dan Pambianco in serving the department’s media relations and event management needs. He will be the primary contact for women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s rowing and softball, as well as providing support for the department’s other program.

At San Jose State, Stern worked primarily with the women’s soccer and softball programs, designing media guides, writing press releases and handling game-day responsibilities. He also contributed to the cross country, basketball and tennis programs.

Stern worked as a student volunteer in the sports information office at Northern Arizona, serving with College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall-of Famer Paul Allen and under long-time SID Wylie Smith. Following a successful career in non-profit fundraising, he returned to college, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism at San Jose State, and working for another notable CoSIDA veteran, Lawrence Fan.

A native of San Diego, Stern enjoys cycling and other outdoor activities in leisure time.
