ARCATA – Humboldt State women’s basketball center Brittney Taylor was named to the 2010 Daktronics West Region all-star team it was announced Wednesday.  Taylor, a senior, averaged 18.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in leading the Lumberjacks to the 2010 CCAA Championship and a berth in the NCAA West Region Tournament.

Taylor was narrowly beat out for 2009-10 Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year by UCSD’s Chelsea Carlisle.  Carlsile earned 127 ballot points, Amanda Dunbar of Western Washington was second with 126 and Taylor finished third with 125 points.

Joining that trio on the 2010 Daktronics West Region all-star team are Reyana Colson of Cal Poly Pomona and Samantha Murphy of Grand Canyon.  Colson was a first team pick a year ago, while Murphy earned second team honors in 2008-09.

Selected to the second team were guards Daesha Henderson of Seattle Pacific and Neka Mixon of Cal State Dominguez Hills and forwards Jessica Summers of Western Washington, Nicci Miller of Alaska Anchorage and Dara Zack of Saint Martin’s.   Mixon earned second team honors for the second year in a row.

Players selected to the region first team will now be listed on the Daktronics All-American national ballot.  The All-American team will be announced later this month.

The selections are made by the sports information directors at the region’s schools that sponsor women’s basketball.   The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
