The Jacks (4-8, 2-6 CCAA) welcome the Penguins of Dominican University on Saturday for two games with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.

Head-to-Head
The Lumberjacks and Penguins have never met.

Lumberjacks Notes
The Jacks have not played in nearly two weeks. … The HSU offense has been led by a pair of freshman. Gia Hampton (.563 BA, 9 H, 1 RBI) is the CCAA’s second-leading hitter and her nine hits are tied for fourth in the conference. Chrissy Stalf (.381 BA, 8 H, 2 2B, 1 RBI) is second on the team in hitting.  Courtney Hiatt, also a freshman, tops the squad with four RBI.  In the circle, Vaneza Hoover has a best ERA at 3.15 and Gracie Perez leads the squad with 16 strikeouts. … As a team the Jacks are hitting .243 (seventh in the CCAA), the team ERA is 3.47 (seventh in the CCAA) and the fielding percentage is .952 (eighth in the CCAA).

Dominican Notes
The Penguins (1-1) finished last season with an 11-27 overall record and a 7-13, fifth place finish in the Cal Pac Conference.  This year, their first in the Division II,  they are members of the Pac West Conference.  They opened the season with a split with Notre Dame de Namur on Feb. 20, but have not played since then. … The DU offense is led by Robyn Ridpath (.571 BA, 4 H, 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI) and Molly Howard (.429 BA, 3 H, 2 2B, 2 RBI). In the circle, Lesley Fay has a 1-0 record with a 3.86 ERA in 7.0 innings in her lone appearance this season she allowed three earned runs and struck out two batters.   The Penguins are led by head coach Bob Herman.

Head Coach Frank Cheek’s Comments
“You look around the league and everybody is beating up on each other.  Most teams, especially (Cal State) Monterey Bay, are playing well at home, but nobody is playing well on the road.  You look at us and we left two wins out there on the road.” … “It’s good for us to not have played in two weeks.  At times we are starting up to five freshman and they are going to make freshman mistakes.  We started to see them bounce back in the last three games in San Bernardino and we don’t need time off right now we need to play.  Our rate of improvement is going to be greater than other teams throughout this season.  But we need to be on the field and in real competitive situation in order to improve.  Working out in the Field House is fine in bad weather, but we need to be on the field.”
