ARCATA — Twenty-five Humboldt State student-athletes were honored for their academic achievements by the California Collegiate Athletic Association this summer.

The athletes earning recognition represent the 10 HSU sports programs affiliated with the CCAA. Humboldt State's rowing and football teams compete in other conferences and weren't eligible.

Track and field and cross country standout Megan Rolland led the way for the Lumberjacks, posting a 4.0 grade point average for the 2009-10 academic year. She was joined by men's track and cross country athlete Robert Gustas and women's track athlete Sylvia Price, both of whom also achieved a perfect 4.0 gpa.

Other Lumberjack student-athletes honored, by sport, were Eric Malain, Kyle Ports, Andrew Moore, Patrick Fox, Andrew Garai and Aaron Fulford for men's track and field; Sarah Nakamoto, Carly Kolpin, Karen Pontoni, Kelly Sandberg and Danielle Drucker for women's soccer; Chrissy Stalf, Allyson Blenis, Courtney Hiatt and Erin Guidarelli, women's softball.

From the women's volleyball team, Callan Finney was honored. Representing women's basketball were Kelly Kime, Kayla Williams and Molly Todd. Amanda Garcia was honored from women's cross country and Abel Gutierrez from men's cross country, while Elliot Babcock-Krenk represented the men's basketball program.

A total of 453 CCAA student-athletes were honored. To be eligible, they must have earned a varsity letter in one of the 13 CCAA-sponsored sports and achieve at least a 3.40 gpa in a minimum of 24 semester units.
